Waldorf Man Charged for Two Separate Fires


WALDORF, Md. (February 08, 2014) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a Waldorf man with involvement in two separate fires. Lorenzo Charles Thompson, 20, of Waldorf, surrendered himself this morning to Deputy State Fire Marshals at the Maryland State Police LaPlata barrack without incident.

Thompson was determined to have been involved in setting two intentional fires this past Thursday shortly after 6 p.m. The first incident was a trash dumpster located at the Eva Turner Elementary School at 1000 Bannister Circle. The fire resulted in $750 damage and was controlled by four fighters from Waldorf in five minutes. The second fire was in an unoccupied townhouse located at 4504 A Ruston Place. This fire caused approximately $3,000 in damages and was also extinguished by Waldorf firefighters in five minutes. Investigators determined that this fire was intentionally set to the carpeting of the living room.

Thompson was charged with first degree arson and arson of a trash container. He is currently being held at the Charles's County Detention Center pending a bond review hearing. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are pending.
