MSP Reports for St. Mary's Co.


badgeLEONARDTOWN, Md. (Nov. 3, 2014)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT: On Thursday, October 30 at 10:47 am, Tpr. K. Morris responded to the Aireco Supply Inc. in Lexington Park for a reported theft scheme. Investigation revealed that Stephen W. Mason, 21, of Callaway, had purchased equipment on two separate occasions using his former employer's credit account. Mr. Mason was arrested on October 31 and charged with Theft Scheme $1000 - Under $10,000. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. All items were recovered and returned to Aireco Supply Inc. Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

On November 2 at 8:08 am, troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to the area of southbound MD Rt. 5 at MD Rt. 6, Charlotte Hall for the report of a motor vehicle collision. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Avalon was traveling eastbound on MD Rt. 6 west of MD Rt. 5. A 2005 Volvo XC90 was traveling southbound on MD Rt. 5. The Volvo was proceeding through a circular green traffic signal, located on southbound MD Rt. 5 at MD Rt. 6. The operator of the Toyota Avalon failed to stop for a steady circular red signal, located on MD Rt. 6 at MD Rt. 5. The Toyota traveled into the path of the Volvo. The Volvo collided into the driver side door of the Toyota in the intersection of MD Rt. 5 at MD Rt. 6.

The operator of the Toyota succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The operator and a passenger from the Volvo were transported to St. Mary's Hospital by ambulance. The collision is being investigated by Tpr. Morris. The St Mary's County State's Attorney's Office was notified and briefed of the collision. The St Mary's County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Highway Administration responded to the scene and assisted with the road closure and traffic detour. At this time, it appears that alcohol is not a factor in this collision.

Unit #1- 2009 Toyota Avalon operated by James R. Day, W/M, 80 years-old (Deceased), resident of Charles County.

Unit #2- 2005 Volvo XC90 operated by Kelly Ann Haynes, W/F, 44 years-old, resident of St. Mary's County.

Front Passenger Unit #2- Juvenile Male, 13 years-old, resident of St. Mary's County.
