Retiree Benefit Trust Meeting Change

The Retiree Benefit Trust meeting, scheduled for Friday, May 15, has been rescheduled to Friday, June 5, 2015.

Retiree Benefit Trust meetings are also planned for August 28, 2015 and November 6, 2015.

Meetings are held in the commissioners meeting room inside the Chesapeake Building in Leonardtown beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Jeannett Cudmore Selected Chief Financial Officer

The Commissioners of St. Mary's County have named Acting Chief Financial Officer L. Jeannett Cudmore Chief Financial Officer. She officially assumes her new role immediately.

Ms. Cudmore began her employment with St. Mary's County government in 1998 as the Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer. Her title was changed to Deputy Director for Finance as a result of the classification study completed in 2000. Once hired, she implemented and trained all users on the County's Integrated Financial System, HTE and continues to be responsible for maintaining application security for the financial modules. She previously served as the County's Acting Chief Financial Officer in 2000.

Prior to coming to St. Mary's County Government, Ms. Cudmore was employed by Charles County Government, as a Senior Accountant in Fiscal Services. In all, her combined experience in local governmental finance totals more than 20 years.

Ms. Cudmore received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Frostburg State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Maryland University College, and she is a Certified Public Accountant.

"Jeannett has proven to be an invaluable resource to the commissioners during this period of transition," said Commissioner President Randy Guy. "She's the right person to assume the role of Chief Financial Officer and ensure our continued financial stability in the years to come."

As Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Cudmore will oversee all fiscal practices for the County, including accounting, procurement, budget development and management for both operating and capital funds. She will also evaluate and monitor capital project expenditures and the related debt capacity.

Ms. Cudmore replaces former Chief Financial Officer Elaine Kramer who passed away March 25.

Recreation and Parks Seeks Qualified Gymnastics Coaches

The St. Mary's County Recreation and Parks Gymnastics program has immediate openings for competitive team coaches at the St. Mary's County Gymnastics Center located in Great Mills, MD.

Coaches are needed for the USAG pre-team level through level 8. Coaches are also need for the Mason Dixon competitive team. Immediate concerns are for USAG levels 5-8 for the optional team gymnasts. Qualified, experienced individuals with a minimum of three years experience and are at least 21 years of age are being sought.

Sign up Now for Summer Youth and Adult Kickball

The St. Mary's County Department of Recreation & Parks announces summer opportunities for the sport of Kickball. This great playground pastime will be offered for children 8-13 as well as for adults.

Youth Kickball

Kids in the youth kickball league will have an opportunity to play scheduled league games and are sure to enjoy this more laid back, social approach to a youth sports league.

There are two divisions to in which kids can be registered … 3rd - 4th Grade League (8 - 10 year olds) and 5th - 6th Grade League (10 - 12 year olds.) Games are played on Tuesday nights at Dorsey Park in Hollywood. Cost to participate is $50. League games will run from June to August.

Registered children will receive a team t-shirt, and all equipment will be provided. Just bring a good pair of shoes, and Let's Play!

Adult Kickball

The Co-Ed Adult Kickball League brings a fresh new twist to the adult recreational sports scene. Men and women looking to get some exercise while socializing with peers can come out to participate in two different programs. A Competitive division will compete on Wednesday nights and a Recreational division will play on Thursday nights.

All games are played in at Dorsey Park and the team fee is $200. Games will be held from June to August.

Citizens Urged to "Stuff the Bus" During Transportation Week

The week of May 16 marks National Transportation Week. St. Mary's County will provide the opportunity for the citizens to stuff the bus by donating non-perishable foods to local food pantries during the spring time, when pantry supplies are low. Just one food item makes a difference.

St. Mary's Transit System (STS) buses will be located at McKay's in Leonardtown, Giant in the First Colony shopping center in California, and Food lion in Charlotte Hall on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the week from May 11 - May 15, additional drop off locations will be available at the following County office locations between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.:

-- Patuxent Building - in front of Human Services office - Leonardtown

-- Potomac - Land Use and Growth Management & Recreation & Parks - Leonardtown

This year's Stuff the Bus campaign goal is 5,000 lbs. of food to donate to the food pantries. Those who donate on Saturday, May 16 will receive a free STS promotional item. Residents may also participate in the year-round collection program at the three County Public libraries located in Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown and Lexington Park.
