JOPPA, Md. (July 14, 2016)—The continuing investigation into the death of a Harford County man this morning has raised additional questions and Maryland State Police are not ruling out any possibilities.
The victim is identified as Timothy L. White, Jr., 22, of Joppa, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although troopers preliminarily believed White may have been the victim of a hit and run, the continuing investigation has raised questions about that and investigators are not certain what caused his death. The victim's body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death.
Troopers have determined that a pickup truck driver, identified as Wayne A. Thompson, 61, suddenly came upon the victim's body lying in the roadway on Rt. 7 prior to Gunpowder Ridge Road, just after 4:00 a.m. today. Thompson was unable to avoid the victim's body and struck him. He was the man troopers found administering CPR to the victim when they arrived.
After an examination of the victim's body by a forensic examiner at the scene, it is unclear if the victim had been hit by another vehicle before being struck by the driver who stopped. Troopers are unsure at this time what caused the victim to be lying in the roadway.
Troopers located the victim's car, a silver Honda CRV, not far from where he was found. The vehicle was on a hill on Gunpowder Ridge Road. The engine was running and in drive. Investigators are unsure why the victim left his car in that way and why he was on an intersecting road, several hundred feet away.
Family members told troopers White said last night he expected to be home around 1:00 a.m. Troopers have determined White was at a convenience store buying food on Joppa Farm Road, shortly after 2:00 a.m. Where he went after that and what led to him lying in the roadway continue to be questions in the ongoing investigation.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Crash Team and investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division are involved in the continuing investigation. Nothing has been ruled out at this time and all possibilities are being considered.
