Beeping Trash Cans Shutdown Burchmart for 90 Minutes

WALDORF, Md. (Sept. 20, 2016)—The Burch Mart convenience store, located at 10195 Berry Road, Waldorf, was closed by authorities last night for approximately 90 minutes. The store supervisor was emptying outside trash cans when she discovered a "beeping" noise coming from inside the trash can and became alarmed.

The Prince George's County Bomb Squad, Charles County Sheriff's Office and the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded.

Robots were used to investigate the trash cans. Investigators discovered that the noise was coming from two discarded smoke alarms.

The incident was reported around 9:26 p.m.
