Larry Joseph Chaney, 78, of Owings passed away February 19, 2024. He was born December 5, 1945 to Joseph Samuel and Helen Elizabeth (Burch) Chaney. Larry grew up in Upper Marlboro where he helped his family raise tobacco and cattle on the family farm. Larry graduated from Frederick Sasscer High School. He then joined the United States Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged on October 28, 1966. Larry continued his schooling and graduated from Prince George's Community College and Frostburg State University. He enjoyed a successful 40-year career with the United States Postal Service primarily working in Human Resources, retiring in 2008. Larry married Joanne Sugden on April 30, 1978, and they lived in Glendale until moving to Owings, where they have lived for the last 27 years. He was a faithful member of Smithville United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, reading the newspaper, traveling, spending time with his family, and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees. Larry was a fun loving, silly, energetic person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife Joanne Marie Chaney, children Elaine Webb and her husband Matt of Huntingtown, Karen Mbuu and her husband Eric of Etters, PA, and Diane Bateson and her husband Kevin of Huntingtown, grandchildren Luke, Ben, Simon, Ruby, and Cody, brother Mike Chaney and his wife Marcia of Huntingtown and brother-in-law Bob Hyde. He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Hyde.
