Wednesday, April 28th, 1954 - Saturday, August 30th, 2025 Marilyn Ann (Stone) Higgs, 71, of Leonardtown, Maryland, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love at her home, on August 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 28, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ford Stone and Elsie Elizabeth (Johnson) Stone. On July 9, 1971, Marilyn married Thomas David Higgs, at St. Aloysius Church. Marilyn was the proud mother of two children, Deborah Dawn Barker/Higgs, who precedes her in death, and Christopher David Higgs and his wife, Jessica. Marilyn, also known as "Gran", was blessed with five grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Monika Baker, Skilyr Caroline, Kendall Barker, Gabrielle Higgs, and Austin Higgs. Marilyn is survived by her beloved siblings: Helen Oliver, Sharon Long (Ralph), Joseph Stone Jr. (Shirley), Ronnie Stone (Becky), and Donna Whites (Larry). She was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Russ Quade. Marilyn was also cherished by her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. Marilyn began her working years caring for children in her home while raising her own family, during this time she touched many young lives in the county. After her children started school, she pursued a career in electronics, working briefly at MiniTech before finding her true professional home at AR Systems, where she dedicated 20 years. She took great pride in her work and the friendships she made with her coworkers Beyond her career, Marilyn's greatest fulfillment came from time spent with her family. Marilyn was a gifted cook, famous for her roast beef and mashed potatoes that gathered her loved ones around the table for decades. She enjoyed simple pleasures such as long weekends in Ocean City and Dover with her husband, where they shared beach trips and casino visits. She also had a love for butterflies that reflected her appreciation for beauty, transformation, and peace. Marilyn will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness that will continue to live on in all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Our Lady's Church, Leonardtown, MD. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Skilyr Caroline, Austin Higgs, Charlie Higgs, Danny Higgs, Robbie Long, and Ted McEldowney. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of St. Mary's for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn's memory to Hospice of St. Mary's.
