She was cremated in La Plata, Maryland, as per her wishes, leaving behind a legacy of courage, love, and unwavering faith. Gayanne is survived by her beloved daughter, P. Mizumi Graham-Jones (Nick Jones), her cherished granddaughter, Kumiko Anne Jones, her sister, Pennelope Echelberger (Doug), her half-brother, William Schweitzer, and her-half sister Sarah (Chris) Lapoint as well as her seven nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul Armon Graham, Jr. and Mary Anne Bahl Switzer, her step-father, John Switzer, and her sisters, Margaret Anne Graham, Heidi Switzer, and Jeannette Graham-Lane. Growing up in Ohio, Gayanne attended Lexington Elementary School in Lexington, Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, and graduated from Malabar High School in Mansfield, Class of 1970. Even as a child, her determined spirit shone through, against all odds, she survived and pressed forward in life. She was always a mover and shaker, getting things done with a smile. Her love for animals began early, a passion that continued into adulthood with her devotion to her many dogs. After high school, Gayanne joined the U.S. Marine Corps, embarking on a distinguished 40-year military career that included service in both the Marines and the Navy. She furthered her education at San Diego State University, advancing her career while embracing the opportunities her service provided. Her military life fueled her love for travel, leading her to live across the continental U.S. and Japan, and to visit Australia and Hawaii multiple times. Gayanne cherished the people, cultures, flowers, food, beaches, and sea life she encountered, often sharing her adventures through vibrant stories and photos. A woman of deep faith, Gayanne loved the Lord and lived generously, always doing kind deeds for family, friends, and strangers alike. She was known to never leave anyone behind. She threw the best parties and loved to celebrate every holiday, especially Christmas. She had a knack for brightening lives, whether through her cheerful handwritten letters, stuffed with photos, recipes, clippings, and colorful stickers, or through her warm, infectious smile. Those who knew her often said their lives were better for it—she never failed to bring joy, no matter the circumstances. Gayanne's personal joys were simple yet profound. She loved sending heartfelt cards, each a small work of art, and her thoughtfulness touched countless lives. She loved to put on music and dance. She also showed love by cooking you a meal or baked goods. Her adventurous spirit, rooted in her military service, was matched by her love for the natural world and the connections she forged with people everywhere she went. As per her request, no services will be held. In keeping with her generous spirit, Gayanne would encourage donations to a charity of your choice in her memory. Her life was a testament to courage, devotion to family, and a steadfast faith that carried her through every challenge. Gayanne's light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
