David Scott Powers, 89 a retired Air Force Colonel who served from 1959 to 1984, died the 21st of October 2025 in his home.

He was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania on May 27th 1936, and lived in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during the last years of World War II. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned a Masters Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.

Colonel Powers spent most of his career in the field of Research and Development, beginning with the Air Force Special Weapons Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His last two assignments were in the Pentagon with Headquarters, USAF, and the office of the Secretary of the Air Force where he was a special assistant for the Airborne Early Warning and Control System.

His military decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, and the Legion of Merit.

Following his military retirement in 1984, he worked for Westinghouse Electronic Systems Division in Linthicum, MD until 1996 as a proposal manager for international air traffic control systems, and later for DTI Associates, Inc., Kratos Defense, and Bowhead as a Systems Analyst/ Senior Engineer. He Retired in 2021 at the age of 85.

Survivors include his brother Thomas Powers of Virginia. His three children, Beth Swann, Mark Powers and Amy Hale. His two grandsons, Craig Reed and Matthew Powers. His two great granddaughters, Aurora Reed and Anastasia Reed. All of Maryland.
