Edward Vianney Clements, Sr.
July 24, 1934 ~ April 27, 2026 In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Edward Vianney Clements Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on July 24, 1934, in Newport, Maryland, Edward was the beloved son of the late William Noble Clements Sr. and Christine Evelyn Mudd Clements. Edward was a man who lived a life of service, love, and dedication. He graduated from La Plata High School in 1952, and shortly thereafter, he served his country with honor in the U.S. Army. As a member of the 505th AAA Missile Battalion (Nike) in Lido Beach, New York, he played a crucial role as an SP3 SAM Launching Crewman before transferring to the Army Reserve of Maryland to complete his service obligation. On April 24, 1960, Edward married the love of his life, Joyce Cooksey, in La Plata, Maryland. For 66 remarkable years, they shared a life filled with unwavering love and laughter, raising three wonderful children: Debbie Holson (Tony), Eddie Clements Jr. (Maddie), and Kenny Clements (Tina). Edward's legacy of love extends to his eight grandchildren—Tyler Holson, Catherine Howard, Olivia Donaldson, Natalie Holson, Eddie Clements III, Heather Clements, Bradley Clements, and Jessica Clements—and five great-grandchildren, Brooks Howard, Cole Howard, Freya Donaldson, Kinsley Capel, and Madison Clements. Edward's professional journey began as a Charles County Deputy Sheriff before he found his true calling as a Sales Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in La Plata, Maryland. Upon retirement, his love for community service led him to roles at the La Plata Mill & Supply and Charles County Parks & Recreation, where he meticulously maintained sports fields and recreational areas. Edward was a devout member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata. He was frequently seen working in his yard and garden on a John Deere tractor, meticulously keeping lines straight in the yard and rows identical in the garden. His passions for gardening, beekeeping, and attracting purple martins were only matched by his commitment to various organizations such as the Southern Maryland Beekeepers Association, the Maryland Two-Cylinder Club, and the Purple Martin Conservation Association. Edward's support for the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum reflected his appreciation for his family's history. Edward's life was characterized by his hardworking nature, warm heart, and compassionate spirit. He was known for his generosity, always willing to lend his time, talent, and resources to those in need. His love for the outdoors and woodworking provided him with endless joy, especially when shared with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Doris Brooks, and brothers Billy, Allison, Carroll, and Leonard Clements, Edward now joins them in eternal peace. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of hard work, generosity, love and kindness. As we bid farewell to Edward Vianney Clements Sr., we remember a life well-lived, filled with love, service, and an unwavering devotion to family and community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery Fund, ensuring the continued care of a place that held deep meaning for Edward and will be his final place of rest.
